Saw a video on some desert utv's and they were Wrapping the Axles with Electrical tape what does this do? just keep debris off of them more hold shattered pieces together to not tear up more on the SXS?

It might only have to do with keeping the rust off to inspect for cracks or damage later, if they keep them bare metal.

The electrical tape helps protect the shafts from getting pelted by rocks

Ottersberg27 is correct, it keeps rocks from nicking them. One step better is plumbers tape. Thicker material and 1 wrap does it as opposed to 2-3 wraps of electrical tape. FYI make sure you wrap it in the direction the axle rotates otherwise is can unwrap on you...

Yep, one of the oldest racers tricks.. Back in the day we would find some old carpet foam cut it in strips and wrap the axle then finish it with e-tape or vulcanizing tape. Kinda a pain to take off for inspection and you throw the whole mess away. Always liked the idea so I figured out a little better solution a few years back. We offer thick wall spiral cut tubing kits complete with clamps that work great and can be removed and reused.
