This coming Saturday, public lands throughout the country will be offering opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to make a difference by volunteering. This is a chance to put your hands to work in your favorite park or public lands. The Bureau of Land Management, the Forest Service, the National Park Service, the U. S. Army of Engineers and many state and local agencies are prepared to welcome eager volunteers and put them to work making public lands all the better.
Trails will be improved, trees will be planted, areas cleared of brush and habitats for wildlife will be enhanced. These agencies have created special projects where your talents and energy can make a difference.
In 2008, more than 120,000 people showed up to volunteer and worked at more than 1800 locations in every state of the Union. What an impressive display of volunteerism! You, too, can make a difference and you can do it this coming Saturday. Go to: www.publiclandsday.org and you will be able to identify a public lands facility that is prepared to welcome you with open arms and put you to work.
Be sure to bring the kids with you and put them to work as well. No reason for you to be the only one in your family with some well used muscles at the end of the day.
Remember, this Saturday, September 26th, is National Public Lands Day for 2009. Please join others in volunteering and making a difference for our public lands.
