We had Joey D on the show a while back, and it was one of our largest shows. I consider him a good friend and thought this was relevant to post here since I have gotten emails from the UTV community.
What is “Down & Dirty”?
I get asked quite frequently about the name of the show. Well here is the truth about the brand straight from me, the founder, Jimmy Beaver. Down & Dirty isn’t just a radio show; it’s a way of life. It represents all the people in racing and action sports that aren’t afraid to work on their own stuff and get Down & Dirty. It’s about pulling all nighters at the shop the night before a race to make the show the next day. It’s about drivers who can also turn wrenches. Down & Dirty is about the real people in motorsports who make stuff happen. There are plenty of people born with a silver spoon in their mouth and given everything in this industry. Down & Dirty is about the men and women with grease and dirt under their fingernails, cuts on their hands, and burns on their arms that have fought tooth and nail to get where they are. Down & Dirty is about doing things your way.
I tried the suit and tie thing. It wasn’t me and didn’t get me anywhere. I’d rather be myself in jeans and a t-shirt than try and be something I am not. You go through all the hard work to get your vehicle or motorcycle to a race or event, the last thing you want to do is put on a monkey suit. In life the one thing you have that no one can take away is your credibility and reputation. It’s ok to be yourself and it’s ok to be real.
Down & Dirty is about doing what it takes to make things happen, but keeping integrity while doing it. I only represent and partner with brands, companies, products, and people that I believe in and that have the same values I do. Here are a few:
Speed Energy - Racer owned and operated by Robby Gordon, a guy that can run a welder and machine shop better than most people paid to do it. He fought for everything he has, and was never given the easy way. He has made himself into what he is today by doing things his way and working his ass off.
Mastercraft/Impact – Racer Owned and operated by Robbie Pierce. Robbie started with a small business doing welding jobs for companies. He worked his way up inch by inch to now owning Mastercraft Safety and Impact Race Products, 2 of the leading companies in the safety industry. Nothing was given to him, hard work and dedication took him to where he is today.
Mad Media - The epitome of Down & Dirty. Matt and Josh Martelli have always been about doing things your way. Matt has grown Mad Media from a one man show to one of the largest players in the action sports industry and has done it on his terms and no one else’s. Never handed a thing, it has been drive and dedication that has taken Mad Media to where it is today.
Don’t sit around waiting for life to hand you a free ride. Make things happen and create your own destiny. Yes, I race a Trophy Truck. Yes, I have the largest off-road radio show on the planet. I can promise you one thing though: I am me, and I do things my way and on my terms. I don’t endorse things I don’t believe in. I am not the racer who is too good to talk to you. I respond to Twitter messages, I respond to Facebook messages, and I answer emails when I can. I am real, I work hard, and if I have learned anything, it’s that in this life you are owed nothing. Get off your ass, make something happen, and get Down & Dirty!
