NEW 2014 Yamaha Viking

For years the industry has patiently waited for Yamaha to introduce a NEW UTV, that day has finally arrived! The Yamaha Viking is Yamaha’s latest entry into the SXS market and was created to give the hard working UTV enthusiast a well built, reliable and functional machine that can truly do-it-all! What you will not see is a new Rhino, unfortunately for many of us, the machine that started it all will now be discontinued. Yamaha has vowed to continue to service and make parts but no longer will we see a Yamaha Rhino be manufactured. RIP Rhino, you were always good to us……

Right away we know that many of you have skipped ahead and scanned through our 100+ images and have already all but shunned this new machine. It doesn’t have the 1000cc Apex Turbo motor, it doesn’t have 20″ of wheel travel, and its not available in carbon fiber, BUT this is Yamaha’s first entry BACK into the UTV market. So before you sport minded guys here on UTVUnderground.com begin to type up your rants on why you are so disappointed with Yamaha hear us out and give the Viking a chance.

Yamaha just shouldered the load of what has surely been the darkest period in powersports since the ATC debacle back in the 80′s. The lawsuits that stemmed from ambulance chasing, irresponsible and down right nasty people and their lawyers over the Rhino not only have changed our sport, it almost ruined it! While Polaris, Arctic Cat, Kawasaki, and Can-Am enjoyed the freedom of development it was all being done at the expense of Yamaha dealing with hundreds, maybe thousands of frivolous claims agains the Rhino. Now, I am not trying to knock the other OEM’s for moving forward and pushing the envelope, I am just trying to shape some reasoning behind what has taken Yamaha so long to get back in the UTV game. These lawsuits all but stopped development of new UTV’s at Yamaha. I can promise you, had these lawsuits not taken place, I am sure Yamaha would still be sitting near the top of the food chain as it pertains to UTV’s in sport, recreation and utility. But as they say, it is what it is. While the industry continued to ride the wave of success surrounding this new sport that Yamaha helped kick start, Yamaha was left to defend itself and thus all but stop even thinking about anything new.

With that said, Yamaha isn’t looking for any sympathy. Meeting with their team, they couldn’t be any more excited about the brand, their new Viking, and this industry in general. While 2007 seems like eons ago, reality is, its only a few years and so for Yamaha they feel primed and ready for a comeback into the UTV market. The Viking is Yamaha’s FIRST new entry in what we hope will be many more. Its target market is the hard working utility enthusiast who enjoys a good trail ride and hunt all while getting work done with his/her machine. What the Yamaha lacks in power and suspension, they made up for in design, strength and ergonomics. They know this isn’t a XP900 or Maverick killer, nope, their saving that for later!

What the Viking is however, is a creatively designed utility machine that was created to go after the 66% of SXS utility enthusiasts. Sure, the sport market is huge for us, but as a company looking to get back into the game Yamaha made the smart choice to do so by first offering the largest segment of UTV users a machine to be excited about. At a glance its easy to see that while the Viking still retains some of the Rhino’s look and feel this machine is really completely different. Its the industry’s first true 3 seat vehicle designed to hold large adults comfortably. The seat’s have been designed for a lower CG making the Viking feel stable at speed and comfortable to drive over longer distances. The center seat is set back as to keep shoulders from bumping when having all 3 seats occupied. Wheel base rivals that of a Kawasaki T4 which in our opinion is just perfect for all sorts of riding. The dumping bed is large enough to put a full size pallet in and with a 600 lb. capacity you are able to get the big jobs done quicker.

Its with great excitement that we here at UTVUnderground.com re-introduce Yamaha back into the UTV game with the new Yamaha Viking! Embrace it, enjoy it, respect it, and prepare for the new line of Yamaha UTV’s that we can only hope begin to flow off of Yamaha’s American assembly lines! Thats right, we said American. Yamaha has relocated their UTV assembly to the United States giving them even more control over design and development! Yamaha has made it clear, their master plan is to introduce a new UTV every year for the next 5 years! So while we sit back and wait to get out and enjoy the Viking out on the trails, we will also sit and wait patiently to see what else Yamaha has up their sleeve for us in the near future!!!

The 2014 Yamaha Viking 4×4 EPS

The all-new Viking is ready to conquer whatever comes its way with our most powerful 686cc, liquid- cooled, fuel injected, SOHC power plant. This new engine delivers strong low-end acceleration and pulls hard through the rpm range to deliver excellent power delivery for getting the job done or when hitting the trails.

The Viking features a large-capacity air intake system that improves overall engine performance. The air cleaner box is accessible from inside the cabin for improved serviceability.

Ultramatic® transmission with dual-range (Hi/Lo) drive and reverse is the most advanced drive system available. An automatic centrifugal clutch maintains constant belt tension for reduced belt wear and uses a sprag clutch for all-wheel downhill engine braking in 4WD mode and reverse.

Industry-exclusive three-position On-Command® 4WD system lets you dial between 2WD, limited-slip 4WD and fully locked differential 4WD.

This true 3-passenger machine achieves driver and passenger comfort with a handhold, padded head rests, and 3-point seat belts for all riders. The superior seating position, adjustable driver’s seat, and the middle seat set back 5 degrees, provide unmatched comfort that all riders will appreciate. Yamaha’s proven electric power steering technology further reduces fatigue and strain on the driver.

The chassis design includes a convenient pass-through floor for greater ease of on-board movement, making it possible to enter and exit the vehicle from either side. The rear cargo bed is made of steel and is designed for maximum load capacity.

WHATS NEW FOR 2014

Maverick MAX 1000R
Unveiled in 2013 as an early release 2014 model, the sporty Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R (also available in the popular X-RS package) offers a class-leading 101-horsepower Rotax engine, precision-engineered handling and both rider- and passenger-focused ergonomics. With seating for four adults, the Maverick MAX platform offers everything the two-seat Maverick 1000R has, but also includes a 29.5-inch longer wheelbase and industry-leading comfort levels for its rear passengers. The MAX also has larger front hydraulic disc brakes than the standard Maverick side-by-side for increased stopping power.

Maverick MAX X-RS DPS
Starting with the base Maverick MAX 1000R, the X-RS DPS package includes Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering and Visco-Lok QE for precision control even in slow-speed technical terrain. The X-RS DPS package also adds a premium fully adjustable FOX 2.5 Podium Performance shock package, 12-inch aluminum beadlock center-less wheels and is available in either white with black and Can-Am Red accents or its original black-and-yellow X-package color scheme. The X-package includes a custom steering wheel, special seat trim, and rock sliders. The new Can-Am family 3-D analog / digital gauge package was also added for 2014.

NEW PACKAGES FOR 2014

Maverick X-RS DPS
New for 2014 is the addition of Tri-Mode DPS and Visco-Lok QE to the two-seat Maverick 1000R X-RS model. The X-RS vehicle also receives the full line of X-package upgrades including, fully tunable FOX 2.5 Podium Performance shocks, 12-inch color- match beadlock wheels, X-package seat trim, mudguards, steering wheel with brushed aluminum center, rock slides and two color choices. Choose between the carryover black-and-yellow color scheme with X-package graphics and sponsor logos and the all-new white with Can-Am Red and black highlights. This model also receives the full X-package gauge upgrade.

Maverick X-XC DPS
The Maverick 1000R X-XC DPS vehicle is inspired by the proven Renegade X-XC platform. The all-new X-package Maverick includes a narrowing kit (60-inch width), tri-mode DPS, Visco-Lok QE and FOX 2.0 Podium X Performance shocks with 12 inches of travel for precision control in tighter woods and trails. Utilizing feedback from Can-Am Maverick side-by-side racers who compete in the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series, the 1000R X xc is built to perform and also includes X-package graphics, seat trim, brushed-aluminum steering wheel, rock sliders, color-match beadlock wheels and the new gauge assembly.

Commander 1000 XT-P
New for the 2014 Can-Am Commander family of class-leading rec-ute side-by-side vehicles is the Commander 1000 XT-P. Dressed in a sporty black-and-yellow finish like its ATV brethren, the XT-P version retains all the X-package components and is designed and outfitted to appease the strict standards of high-performance side-by-side enthusiasts that desire a true rec-utility crossover vehicle. Items like a 4,000-pound WARN winch, rock sliders, beefier bumpers add to this vehicle’s utility background, while its FOX HPG shocks, front swaybar, and beadlock wheel give a nod to its sportier side. The new Tri-mode DPS and Visco-Lok QE are also included.

NEW COLOR SCHEMES

White
The standard two-seat Can-Am Maverick 1000R now comes in in a brilliant white plastic with blacked out center-less wheels and basic graphics.

White / Black / Red
Found on the Maverick 1000R X-RS and X-XC packages in both the two-seat and MAX platforms a new white plastic includes black and red as two secondary colors. These vehicles also wear X-package graphics, sponsor logos and color matched Can-Am Red beadlock rims.

NEW FEATURES

3-D Analog / Digital Gauge
An upgraded 3-D analog / digital gauge package is offers on all XT, XT-P (Commander), X-RS and Limited (Commander) packages. The new gauge differs from the normal rectangular version found on the base vehicles by including a 3-D back- ground for enhanced visual clarity. It features state-of-the-art instrumentation with an analog tachometer and speedometer combined with an advanced digital information center and much more.

Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering and Visco-Lok QE on Maverick
The Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) system is now available on certain Maverick 1000R two-seat and MAX vehicles. The all-new Maverick 1000R X-RS DPS package includes both features for even more precision handling. The all-new trail-friendly Maverick 1000R X-XC DPS also receives this update for the new model year. The brand new Maverick MAX X rs comes standard with Tri-Mode DPS. Featuring three driver-selectable settings (Hi, Med, Lo) for use in the Maverick, DPS selects the appropriate level of steering assistance based on the amount of steering assistance required for the current speed and terrain conditions. DPS also includes the Quicker-Engaging (QE) Visco-Lok front differential to improve the Maverick side-by-side’s traction and abilities in slow-speed, technical terrain. Like the Commander DPS system, the Maverick DPS vehicles offer variable steering assistance in any mode and is engineered to offer less assist at high speed and more assist at low speed.

Maverick Tri-Mode DPS Package
For 2014, a separate Maverick 1000R DPS package will be available in addition to the base and X rs without DPS. The new 2014 four-seat Maverick MAX 1000R X rs DPS is only available with the Can-Am exclusive Tri-Mode power steering system. Each DPS model comes in the new white with Can-Am Red and black X-package color schematics.

The 2014 Can-Am Maverick Max 1000R

The all-new 2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R four-seat side-by-side is purpose built to raise both the performance and comfort levels of the modern multi-passenger off-road vehicle. The MAX offers the same class-leading performance (101-horse- power), handling and ergonomic influences of the two-seat Maverick 1000R, but also benefits from industry-exclusive Can-Am design elements. With a 29.5-Inch longer wheelbase, Dynamic Passenger Comfort system and stadium-style rear seating, the 2014 Maverick MAX 1000R is engineered to accommodate multiple passengers. The Maverick MAX vehicle also has a larger hydraulic disc brake system up front compared to the standard Maverick two-seater

The Maverick MAX platform is available in both a standard model and the X rs DPS performance package, which includes Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering, Visco-Lok QE, FOX 2.5 Podium performance shocks, beadlock wheels, X-Team graphics, two color choices and more. The X rs DPS platform also receives the updated 3-D analog / digital gauge background package.

The 2014 Can-Am Maverick 1000R

The 101-horsepower Rotax-powered Can-Am Maverick 1000R is built to offer industry-leading performance, precision-engineered handling and a driver-focused design unlike any side-by-side vehicle to date. A new trail-specific package, fresh color schemes, improved gauges and Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) highlight the list of 2014 Maverick family updates.

The base Maverick 1000R is now available in its trademark black-and-yellow finish or a new white finish. The Maverick X rs and Maverick X xc DPS will come in two colors as well, including an attractive white plastic with supportive Can-Am Red and black highlights. The narrowed Maverick X xc is purposely designed to perform in tighter trails and includes power steering as well as its other X-package components. Also new for 2014, the Maverick 1000R X rs DPS brings power steering and Visco-Lok QE to the table. The X rs, X xc are better adept at slow-paced crawls in the rocks or mud with the quicker- engaging front differential system. Finally, all X-package Maverick models will receive the 2014 3-D analog / digital gauge enhancement / background as well as ECO mode.

The 2014 Can-Am Commander 1000 Family

The Can-Am Commander 1000 family is designed from the ground up to be the most innovative and versatile rec-utility side- by-side in the industry. The Commander 1000 is available in four optional packages over the base configuration, including the all-new XT-P package for 2014. All Commander vehicles also received the new Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering, enhanced heat reduction in the cockpit, new rear differential, ECO mode and a 3-D analog / digital background. 2013 SCORE Baja 500

GRUELING – Thats the best word to describe the 2013 Baja 500. 10 Pro UTV’s would stage to take on this challenging race, only 2 would finish. Of the 2, Polaris’ Matt Parks & Brandon Schueler in the 1932 Jagged X RZR XP would be the team to claim the top spot in the 2013 SCORE Tecate Baja 500. They are not only the first Pro UTV team to win this prestigious race, but now the first to go back to back having won the 2013 SCORE San Felipe 250 earlier this year also.

The race shifted leads a handful or times but when the Murray’s crashed and broke their Can-Am Maverick somewhere around RM 355, Matt Parks would take the lead and never look back. The Murray’s had a great run going through the middle of the race, escaping a bottle neck at the Summit and able to put a 30 +/- minute lead over the Jagged X machine by the time they reached the 200 mile mark. That lead would be enjoyed up until about RM300 when they would stop to perform their driver change and allow Parks to slowly begin to reel them in. Their late race crash would spoil their valiant effort and make way for Jagged X to take home their second win in the 3 race SCORE series. Jagged X would finish in 17 hours, 49 minutes.

While Jagged X ran away there was one team still in the hunt for the podium and that was the 1904 Can-Am Maverick of Cory Sappington. Sappington, despite a depleted crew would press hard into the night finishing well after the sun had risen. His effort despite having only 1 chase truck and having “ironmanned” the race behind the wheel would make his second place finish even more spectacular. Our hats are off to he and his crew for overcoming the challenging Baja 500. Sappington would finish in 20 hours, 20 minutes.

It is disappointing for us to see 8 of the 10 UTV’s DNF, but I know that each one of those teams and racers are even more disappointed. The time, effort and manpower needed to take on this race is enormous. The time some of these teams put into prep and pre-running makes DNF’ing even more heart breaking. We (the UTVUnderground.com crew) pulled an all nighter chasing the leaders to the finish and then waiting until almost 6am before seeing Jagged X finally cross the finish line almost 18 hours after they left. Baja racing is not for the weak, you don’t just show up and go race expecting to win let alone finish. It is an endurance race, a battle with the course more than with competitors. The Baja will make you feel like the biggest person on earth one minute and then humble you to the point where you begin to question your worth the next.

Racing in a UTV makes this challenge even more difficult. 200 + vehicles are sent off the line in front of you, some bigger and faster, some much slower. The course changes by the minute and you are left to not only try to defeat your opposing class racers but are also forced to deal with the carnage strewn before you by 200 machines raging down your same path. Baja isn’t just a race, its an experience. Some say the race gets in the way of the pre-run and partying, we would tend to agree there. But its this battle of man vs. machine vs. nature vs. the race course vs. competitors that makes the dynamic of Baja racing so much more gnarly then any other form of American desert or short course racing. Baja is the benchmark, if you want to be known as the best you must take on and conquer Baja. If you want to see where you and your team and machine truly rank amongst off-road racers then you have to race Baja. For years we have heard people say that Jagged X was the premier team in UTV off-road desert racing, but if they are so good then they should go race Baja. Well guess what, Jagged X has all but locked up a 2013 SCORE Championship, and for that we congratulate them.

I want to first thank each and every single racer, crew member, and team who represents UTVUnderground.com on and off the race course. Baja is a special place for us and to see so many of you come up and talk to us and thank us for our work makes it all worth it. I want to secondly thank our crew. We were up well beyond the 24hr mark before any of us got to go to sleep for any reasonable amount of time. Rusty, Ryan, Conrad and the rest of our crew worked their butts off to help us actually chase just the UTV’s in Baja for the first time ever. Chasing trophy trucks is easy, waiting up all night for UTV’s is a challenge even as a media crew. I apologize for not being able to get photos of every UTV racer out on course. Like any desert race we do what we can but at some point we have to leave our spots and run up with the leaders to ensure we get to the finish in time to see them across. Later this week we will drop a full video for Polaris surrounding our Baja 500 race experience and tell the story of the winning Jagged X team.

The 45th Baja 500 is in full swing here in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. The locals as well as the racers and their teams came out in full force. The entire town is ROCKING this week and the party will carry on well into the weekend.

Word is we will end with around 11 Pro UTV’s taking the green flag tomorrow around noon. The first 4 wheel vehicle (Trophy Trucks) are scheduled to leave the line at 10:30am PST which means we should see UTV’s go around 12:30pm. With some luck we will see a UTV finish around midnight so it will without a doubt be a LONG day!

The racers are primed and there is some existing as well as some new competitors here in the UTV class in Baja. San Felipe 250 winner Matt Parks in the 1932 Jagged X Polaris is here and along with his co-driver Brandon Schueler, who will drive the first half of the race, is ready to go for a back to back win.

The Murray’s are here representing Can-Am along with Corry Sappington and newcomer to the class Marc Burnett. Burnett is no stranger to the deserts of Baja having multiple truck wins under his belt here south of the border. This will be Marc’s first time in a UTV so we will see how well he and his brand new Maverick hold up.

Todd Romano, Hans Waage and the Baja famous Larry Roeseler are ready to tackle the grueling 500 mile course in their Arctic Cat Wildcat-X which has undergone a major transformation since its unveiling at Feburary’s San Felipe 250. The Wildcat is sporting a massive Long Travel system that has taken the wheelbase to over 100 long long and has widened the chassis almost 8 additional inches! They are coming to win, and their confidence is high.

Another hugely successful Rally On The Rocks event is in the bag! We had a phenomenal time in Moab hanging out and riding with friends and peer’s on what seems to be the endless Moab trails. This year’s event was hands down the best and most organized event we have attended in our 4-5 years of going to this Rally, so with that we want to congratulate Jerrod and Lanse on a job well done!

This year we were there not just to play but to bring home some exciting photo and video coverage from the event. Thanks to FOX we were able to provide these stunning images taken by yours truly and our good buddy Harlan Foley of ATVRiders.com. In addition, we will be dropping a Polaris ROTR highlight video so that we can show you all how the Rally went down from the seat of our pants!

When Joe Gambero of Santa Rosa, CA sent us a shot of his new 2013 Polaris XP4 he calls the ORCA, we knew we wanted to share it. Since we usually reserve the UTVUnderground.com homepage for quality images and videos as well as stories we were torn whether to simply post on the forum or to somehow do a feature on the homepage. So after bouncing the idea around we decided to create a new homepage story topic that we could feature these types of builds and stories on and rely on you, our readers to supply. Joe Gambero took his XP4 to the guys at NorCal Sand and Off Road to turn into the ultimate off-road play UTV. UTVUnderground.com has been fortunate to have been a part of some of the industries coolest and most innovative UTV builds. Because of our build history when UTVUnderground sets out to build a new machine the bar is set high and the expectations of an over the top build are even higher. So when we began drawing up plans for our 2013 Polaris RZR Jagged-X Edition we knew we had to go BIG!

We knew right away we wanted to build a dual purpose UTV. Something that could be used for more strenuous pre-run adventures such as pre race running of the Baja 500 or 1000 all while still being a fun car to play with whether we wanted to take it to Moab or Ocotillo Wells. With out build direction laid out we now needed a build partner who could best help us execute this project. After some quick discussion, we selected to use for the first time at UTVUnderground.com, SDR Motorsports out of Riverside, CA.

Tim Berendes and his team at SDR Motorsports are the leaders in custom Polaris RZR builds so it was a no brainer that at some point UTVUnderground.com and SDR would collaborate on a build of this quality. We dropped our machine off at SDR’s facility in Riverside and Tim assured me that they wouldn’t let us down. Not only did they not let us down, they completely over delivered, building us a machine that not only turn heads but it totally functional to boot.

While SDR took on the challenge of fabricating and assembling the new machine, we set out on rounding up all of the parts and accessories we wanted to include in the build. We began with the more important accessories that would benefit us on those long pre-run adventures. Lights, Communications, Navigation, Wheels and Tires topped that list with us reaching out to some of the industries best companies. Before we went too far we worked with SDR on a custom color scheme that would retain the factory flat back base color but then would utilize a never before seen “flat / anodized candy blue” color for the cage that in some light looks like a metallic purple. Now, every build needs a name, so after lots of thought we decided to settle on BLACK MAMBA for this build!

The Build

Rigid Industries supplied us with more LED lights then we could have ever wanted and added some of their custom flare hooking us up with interior and rock style A-Series lights that were BLUE and helped accentuate our accent color. Tim and his guys mounted a blue A-Series light in each of the 4 fender wells to be used as rock lights and undercarriage accent lights. These lights not only look cool but also can help us in case of a night time tire replacement or repair. SDR then put the remaining 2 A-Series lights in the center roof bar to be used as dome lights. These blue accent lights really give the car a sweet custom look when fired up! A 30″ SR light bar would be custom mounted to the roof, surrounded by a custom aluminum shroud, the way SDR mounted this bright LED light looks super trick! We have no intention of bumping anyone in this car so we opted for no front bumper and instead installed a custom SDR front grill with a 10″ SR LED light that mounts directly into the factory bumper mount location. While the roof bar will give us that high throw light, the low mounted 10″ will give us that close to the ground coverage. From there we added 2 Dually D-2 LED lights on the a-pillars to give us that middle and side to side coverage. To say we have enough light is an understatement!! To top it all off, Rigid Industries also sent us 2-SRM blue LED’s that we mounted on the rear bumper behind a cool aluminum piece. These lights would act as our reverse lights which anyone who has ever ridden at night knows can really come in handy!

For anyone who has ever ridden off-road and in unfamiliar territory, you know how important Navigation and Communications are. Our friends at Polaris supplied us with their new Lowrance 5″ HDS / XTR GPS which would be mounted into our custom Wally World fiberglass dash. With that taken care of, we reached out to Rugged Radios for their hot new communications set up. Rugged sent us out their new Revolution Series RRP686 Intercom. This new high tech intercom works as a 2-4 place and can be expanded to be up to an 8 person intercom system! Of course for us, we just need it for driver / passenger communication but its a cool piece of equipment with lots of options! We love the way this intercom looks, in place of traditional knobs are touch membrane volume controls and on/off buttons that give the intercom a futuristic and custom look that fit our build perfectly. In addition we installed a Rugged Radios Vertex 50w race radio which SDR put on the passenger side dash panel above the glove box. The intercom was mounted just to the left of the steering column making it easy to reach for the driver.

Wheels and Tires are an important decision for any build and to carry the theme of the build, we wanted to use products from site sponsors/advertisers. Walker Evans Racing wheels were an easy decision. 12″ WER beadlock wheels come stock on the Jagged X edition but we wanted to step up to 14″ beadlocks on out build so WER dialed us in with 5 of their popular 14″ race wheels. From there we decided on going with the extremely popular GBC Motorsports Kanati Mongrel tires. We debated over using 30″ or 28″ tall tires but after some discussion settled on the 28″ which to us looks the best and at full bump does not rub. Its hard to go anywhere these days and not see a set of these Mongrel’s being ran on a UTV. The GBC Motorsports Mongrel is also a DOT approved tire which gives us confidence when we are running at high speed on the highways in Baja!

Comfort and Safety are a MUST for any build! We leaned on partners Pro Armor to supply us with a pair of custom seats that not only would look good in our Black Mamba but would also provide us with that long distance comfort. Pro Armor hooked us up with their XL Sniper seats with removable seat cushions which make for easy cleaning! The XL Sniper seat is the perfect seat for big guys and offers a slightly deeper bucket in the seat. We have ran these seats in multiple builds and they always deliver on both comfort and style! SDR installed a set of Crow 5-Point harnesses to hold us in place but it was DragonFire Racing that would deliver the final touch for our interior safety. DFR hooked up the Black Mamba with their new suede sport steering wheel with quick disconnect and a sweet navigator grab bar with anti vibration clamp. The steering wheel is perfect in diameter and gives us the look and feel we were after with this build. Both driver and passenger PTT buttons are installed on our steering wheel and navigator grab bar.

We went all out on this build and one look at it sitting complete you can tell that we spared so expense and SDR spared no detail on the Black Mamba. Its the details that make any build and for us we have some of the coolest details included that deserve mentioning. The custom Wally World dash really makes our interior stand out above any other build we have done this far. It houses all of our custom UTVUnderground.com / UTVInc switches, our Polaris GPS, factory gauge and ignition. If you look closely you will spot some of the 5 SSV Works stereo speakers. The SSV Works system is a must for any build. There is nothing better than having tunes while you are cruising or hanging out on a ride. This 5 speaker Kicker system JAMS and is pretty much plug and play. SSV Works supplies the speakers with enclosures that are custom fitted to the contours of the RZR’s interior. Because of our custom SDR rear storage boxes, SDR had to build a custom enclosure for our rear pod speakers which are mounted directly into the rear firewall just between the passenger and driver seats. SDR told us that over 300ft of wire went into building this hot UTV, and we don’t doubt it one bit. SDR put resettable breakers on all of the accessories but one thing we will add is a backup battery! We are going to need it!

When we picked up Black Mamba from SDR we were completely blown away. The look of the machine, the lines, the aluminum work, the wiring, the color scheme, everything just really worked together. SDR’s XPR-2 cage system coupled with their custom opening doors, rear aluminum storage compartments, and trick roof mounted light bar mount really set this car off. It was a shame to get it dirty but thats exactly what we had to do once Vincent Knakal of Mad Media was done shooting photos of it! We loaded Black Mamba up and took it to Moab, UT for the Rally On The Rocks event and to put the machine to the test! Not surprisingly, the machine did everything we wanted it to do. From pounding the whooped our dirt roads to overcoming the unforgiving rock trails, Black Mamba not only tore it up, it looked good while doing it. The taller wheels and tires make for a very smooth ride while the interior creature comforts are positioned in all the right places. It was a wise decision for us to add the Factory UTV UHMW trailing arm skids before heading out and they saved our arms multiple times!
