Hello all,

I would like to share the information that I've found with everyone and hopefully get some feedback from desert racers, I really don't care about getting a good all around tire - just something that won't bash my rzr too bad and will last thru the rocks. Please give me and advise that you can, this information is not available from what I can find!!

I am currently running 30 inch Mongrels on 14 inch STI HD beadlocks, the tires weigh 33lbs and the rims weigh about 17lbs. Total 50lbs a rim and tire.

I would like to change to a 15 inch rim so I could get a LT tire from Discount Tire with Certs - trying to save money on tire replacements since I am desert racing now - and not wealthy. Tire shops will not put tire Certs on the Mongrels because they are considered a ATV/UTV tire, I tried. After one 48 miles race my rear tires are looking pretty worn and I was constantly worrying about getting a flat on rocks. I feel like I can be a lot faster if the LT tires can hold up to the abuse.

I need a beadlock and there are not a lot of options for true beadlocks for these RZRs, I think I'm going to go with a Sedona Raceline Mamba beadlock 15/7 for about $147 a rim and weigh about 15lbs, other options would be a Method Beadlock 15/7 for $217 a rim (don't know weight) and MSA M21 beadlock 15/7 for $200 a rim weigh 15lbs. This is what my research has found, I'm putting the Mongrel information on this as a base, everyone seems to be running them if they are not then they are running the Km2 but they are so super heavy. One of the XP1K videos had the Falkens but those are heavy too. Why aren't more racers running the BFG AT?

Stock 2014 Polaris Rzr Xp1000
Front - 37.4lbs
Rear - 43.9lbs

Tires: (best price I could find) - 30/9.50r15

Mongrel - $158/tire -34lbs
BFG AT - $128/tire -36.95lbs
BFG KM2 -$199/tire -41.8lbs
Falken Wild Peak -$110/tire -39lbs

ITP Ultracross type R - 30/10r14 $180/tire - 36.25/tire

Beadlock Rims 15/7:

Sedona Raceline - $147/rim -15lbs
Method 401 - $217/rim -?????lbs
MSA M21 - $200/rim - 15lbs

So from this I think I'm going to go with the Sedona Raceline for a light beadlock that's affordable and easily available if I broke one, and the BFG AT because it's pretty light, very available and I can get tire Certs for them. I have about two weeks before I pull the trigger on rims and tires because I have to sell my current set up and do some other race prep. Does anyone have experience desert racing this tire? How does it do thru rocks?

Thank you Joey I figured this would be the best forum for UTV racers to give me some advice. Hopefully some people smarter than me can chime in and share some good information!

Because I'm looking for a tire that would be considered for a tire cert for replacement

Understandable, but if you use a tire that doesn't need replaced you don't have to worry about that. I think its more important to finish a race without any tire failures rather than worry about getting your tire replaced once you loose the race due to a tire failure, my .02

Do you know if those are stronger than a mongrel and how would they com pair with a Lt tire?

All i can tell you is my personal opinion on them..... I,ve ran the Baja 500, Baja 1000, and many other races on them and only had 1 tire failure
How often did you change them? How did they look after Baja? That's an intense race for even the best tire that's amazing

It seems all the front runners in Dez racing run the Ultracross due to less failures. Just look at what the leaders in the sport are doing...Let them spend the money and do the R&D.......They cant afford to lose races on the bad tire and wheel choices.

I am running the 30" Ultracross on my Teryx4. I love them. I know Cody Currie ran the same set of Ultracross tires for the last 3 KIng Of The Hammers. No flats!!

we tested allot of tires/farm tires ultra crosses and viper were my favorite and were the best all around tires. bfg km2 made the rear of our car chatter a bit but I know jaggy runs them because of less flats then the falken. I know holtz ran those bfg commercial ones they are lighter but seem to get a lot of flats I believe it cost them a championshion in 2013.

I run the 30" 9.50/ 15 General AT's. So far they have been indestructible. I have yet to have a flat or wear one out. With that being said I do wish they were a little more aggressive. I did a minor groove job on the rears removing every 4th lug on the rears and it helped quite a bit. Before the next race I will probably groove them some more making them more like a MT. I also started lowering the pressure and will continue to drop them until I find the traction versus durability I'm looking for. Keep in mind my race car is 2wd so they might hook up better for you on RZR running 4x.
