If you have an intercom in your vehicle, you already know how enjoyable it is to communicate with your passengers while off-roading. Imagine being able to do the same thing, but with people in other vehicles. No more having to bring your group to a stop just to decide which trail to take. Using a Car 2 Car radio system in conjunction with an intercom will improve your riding experience.

But how does it work?
To communicate with other vehicles, you need to connect a 2-way radio to your intercom. With the proper jumper cable connecting the two, you will now be able to communicate through headsets or wired helmets. Our Car 2 Car kits come complete with (2) Push to Talk buttons (PTT). One coil cord PTT is for the steering wheel, and one straight cord PTT is for the passenger. To transmit to another vehicle over the radio, you simply push and hold the PTT button and start talking, It’s that simple!

When it comes to deciding which Car 2 Car kit is best for you, it all basically revolves around
the radio.

5 Watt car-to-car
If you are always within a mile or two of the other vehicles you wish to communicate with, a 5 Watt Car 2 Car kit may be your best option. With 5 watts of transmitting power, you can expect to get 2.5 miles of range (depending on the terrain). One of our 5 watt Car 2 Car kits includes the RH-5R Radio, which has become extremely popular due to its size, portability, and is compatible with a wide range of accessories. The RH-5R Car 2 Car kit comes with a long range ducky antenna, a dash mount for the radio, driver & passenger push to talk buttons, and a jumper cable.

The entire 5 watt RH-5R Car 2 Car kit retails for only $209.

50 Watt car-to-car
If you are often on rides that put you further than a few miles apart, you’re going to need a bit
more power. For that, we have 50 watt Car 2 Car kits. Our most popular 50 watt option includes the VX2200 Vertex radio and will allow you can transmit about 20 miles (depending on the terrain). This radio connects directly to your battery and can be mounted using any number of mounting brackets that we carry (sold separately). The antenna coax cable included is 17ft long and has a NMO style connection. This style is designed to mount the antenna through a hole in your roof, or to an antenna bar mount (sold separately). This complete package is what you will find in most Ultra4 and Desert Racing trucks.

The entire kit (radio, antenna, cabling with NMO mount, 2 PTT’s, and the jumper cable) retails for $557.01

Base Kit
If you are often back at camp and want to be able to communicate with those out riding, installing a Base Kit into your RV, truck or trailer will keep you connected with them.

This kit consists of a 50 watt mobile radio, ½ wave VHF external antenna, coax cabling and hand mic. The 50 watt base kits come in two variations: NMO style antenna mount or magnetic antenna mount. The standard NMO mount can be used to mount the antenna through a hole in your roof, or to a bar mount (sold separately).

The magnetic antenna mount is a great option that can be mounted to most metal surfaces and is easily transferable to another vehicle. With this kit, your family no longer has to wonder when you’re coming back to camp and you can always get a hold of them if something goes wrong.
NMO ($439.11 retail)
MAG ($448.15 retail)
