GREAVES AND CHANEY CAPTURE TORC SERIES UTV CHAMPIONSHIPS
CJ Greaves Nearly Delivers Perfect Season, While Kyle Chaney Wins It All on the Final Day During the Kenda Final Rounds at ERX Motor Park in
Elk River, Minnesota

Elk River, Minn. (Sept. 25, 2017) –This was the year UTV racing in TORC: The Off-Road Championship presented by AMSOIL came of age, with a record number of entries, full-field starting grids, and a level of racing intensity equal to any in North America. This past weekend, during the Kenda Final Rounds at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota, the drama of the season came down to the final day of racing. One where CJ Greaves looked to go undefeated in his Yamaha in PRO Stock UTV, and Kyle Chaney needed one final push to clinch the PRO Mod UTV championship for Can-Am.

GREAVES DOMINATES CHAMPIONSHIP RUN, BUT BID FOR PERFECTION FALLS SHORT
For young gun CJ Greaves, the TORC Series has been a way of life. Already regarded as one of the best drivers in the series with multiple truck championships on his resume, this season he looked to add another in PRO Stock UTV. He did so with relative ease. Since the season started in Chicago this spring, Greaves has been untouchable, winning 12 races in a row and clenching the season championship on Saturday in Elk River with another flawless, top-of-the-podium performance. CJ made it clear by his post-race comments he wanted to deliver a perfect season for Yamaha, but fellow Yamaha pilot Zach Martin had other plans.

Martin grabbed the early lead from CJ and never relinquished it. Throughout the race, Greaves looked to pass Zach on several attempts, but each time Zach made his vehicle as wide as possible and blocked the line. Finally, in the closing laps, Greaves made a pass stick, but Martin wasn’t going to let victory slip away. He found an incredible drive on the exit of the north sweeper turn and kept it matted. That extra second of going all out was the difference, and gave Zach the advantage to hold off Greaves at the line.

“Just drive…don’t make a mistake,” said a very happy Zach Martin as he talked about his focus on the final laps. “It feels amazing…I wanted to win so bad this year and we got it on the last race of the season.”

Yet while Martin won the last-race battle, Greaves dominated the war by winning the year-end championship by a margin of 57 points over Martin who finished second in the chase; and more than 100 points in front of third place finisher Dillon Pointon. Those results gave Yamaha a sweep of the year-end podium. “These Yamahas just do their thing,” said Greaves. “They can run every lap whether it’s a 15-minute race or 30-minute race…they seem to live at 110% all the time.”

KYLE CHANEY TAKES CARE OF BUSINESS TO EARN PRO MOD UTV CHAMPIONSHIP
When it came down to battles for a year-end championship, the PRO Mod UTVclass delivered the drama as Can-Am pilot Kyle Chaney held the slimmest of margins over Rodney Van Eperen and his Yamaha. To make things even more interesting, Van Eperen handed over driving duties at the start of the weekend to Johnny Greaves due to an injury he suffered in a motocross accident a week prior. To throw one more twist into the blender, CJ Greaves was also racing in the PRO Mod UTV class this weekend, and as expected, doing very well.

Chaney entered the Kenda Final Rounds with a 9-point margin in his bid for a championship over Van Eperen. But a top of the box finish on Saturday by Johnny, who was driving for Rodney, and a second-place finish by CJ, meant Chaney would lose four valuable points with his hard-fought third-place finish.

Despite all of this, Chaney’s path to the championship was still simple…beat Johnny on the final day and the crown was his. That’s exactly what he did. Jumping out to an early lead and looking exceedingly fast and smooth, Chaney held off Johnny lap-after-lap, and in the process brought home the championship. “Consistency was the key,” said Chaney from atop the podium. “The Can-Am vehicles were always up here on the box…this was a hard championship to win but I’m so pumped to have it.”

Van Eperen finished second in the championship chase, just 5-points behind Chaney, while fellow Can-Am driver Tim Farr rounded out the year-end podium 58-points back.
