Corona, California (January 17, 2017)[/B] – Officials of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series presented by GEICO have trimmed the 2017 championship schedule from 15 to 13 races as part of an ongoing process designed to ensure a strong future for the series.

The events at Sparks, Nevada, and Devore, California, will have one round of competition instead of the two originally scheduled at each venue. No dates have been changed, however. The series will be at Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks for round 11 on August 26 and at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore for round 12 on September 16.

No other events are affected and the season will end with round 13 of the championship and the Challenge Cup races at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona, October 21-22.

"We're going to change things up a little this year and try out a few new ideas," Lucas Oil Executive Vice-President Bob Patison said.

"The single-day race format at Sparks and Glen Helen is an experiment. It should make for some very intense race action. We're also bringing in more grandstands and providing additional parking to accommodate more race fans."

Series director Ritchie Lewis said the format changes were among the suggestions made during the usual post-season meetings and conversations.

"We're taking every measure possible to ensure that we're around for many years to come," Lewis said. "We've looked at and tried a lot of the recommendations that were made and we'll continue to listen to suggestions from our teams and our great fans.

"The single-day events at Wild West Motorsports Park and Glen Helen Raceway will give us a chance to see how that works in both long haul and short haul situations. The overall experiences of the series personnel, the fans and the competitors will be noted and we'll compare past data to this year to help us going forward with regard to single-day events.

"We also welcome any constructive feedback during this trial period.
