Hubby and I are leaving Oregon prolly Dec 21st. And we are looking for places/suggestions where we should ride...
South of Sacramento we will prolly hit Glamis for a day or 2 just to mark it off our bucket list.
Some thoughts are
Johnson Valley
Ocotillo Wells
Buttercup
Superstition mountain
Gordon wells
Whats your thoughts on these areas?

Thanks in advance
Barbara

Hungry Valley in Gorman, CA

Jawbone Canyon/Dove Springs (Redrock area). About 15 miles north of California City, Ca

Mammoth area but that sounds a little out of the way.

If you go out to the California City area check out the Burrow Schmidt tunnel and Randsburg. I hear Pismo Beach is best in the winter too. You can also pick up a book by Charles Wells called Guide to Southern California Backroads and 4 Wheel Drive Trails at funtreks.com. It's mostly geared to full size rigs but he tells you when OHVs aren't allowed which is basically in Death Valley. It covers some of the areas you mentioned. I check his site anytime I'm going somewhere new, his books are bar none the best trail books out there. It doesn't matter where you ride as long as you're riding right?:)

It looks like if you just went to Glamisnorth.com and stayed there you could access some of the best ridding around. Glamis is close, Ocotillo is close and the cool trails around the park.

Is this the KOA campground?
I checked there and they are all filled up, so we will prolly just dry camp somewhere for 3 or so days then pack up and go to another spot for a few days..
We live at the Dunes here in Oregon so we only wanted to hit Glamis for one day (bucket list) and then take more of the trail rides..and historical sites..

We would love to meet up and ride with fellow peeps when we are down there also...:)

What is the route you are taking? Maybe we can help point stuff out that would be along the way?

No planned route after Sacramento, we are open to anything.. kinda like to say on the east side of I-5
We were to go to Glamis for a week at Thanksgiving, (not the best time for us) and the ones we had planned on going with bailed...which ended up working the best for us...
Now we have 10 or 12 days to play at different areas...
We have narrowed our list to these possibilites
Jawbone, Dove Springs, Splangler hills, Stoddard, Johnson Valley & Superstition
if there are other areas we should hit PLEASE tell...

We are for sure going to Octotillo Wells for 3 days
Glamis for a day just to mark it off the bucket list

Hopefully this helps...Barbara

Sounds like a fun trip.:)

Any-way if I was you!!! I would hit Nevada as well.

May-be on your way back home, like that.

Nevada is a lot more wide open and is way-good land for cow grazing...lol

You and your Cow would love it there.:D

As far as riding, I would take Nevada any-day over Caliphony:cool:
