What an awesome race. The UTV teams really proved they belong in Baja. The two top teams finished in around 27.5 hours at an average spread of 32.5mph.

Hate to break up all the Polaris fanboy love, but does anyone know how Cory Sappington finished? Last report was he was not that far behind the leaders. Like the guy or not, he does this stuff on a shoestring running a car not at all that far from stock. He begs for people to race with him and crew for him and then runs up front with no real recognition. You would think someone would at least let us know how he finished, but then again, he doesn't drive a Polaris so it makes sense. The title to this thread should read "Baja 1000 update for Polaris".

Congrats to the Holz team for the win.
BTW I would be part of that fan club. Cory is a good guy and like the post says he is out to compete every time on a budget a lot smaller than some of these big teams and not to take anything away from them but it is awesome to see a guy with so much heart be able to compete with his will and desire to go out and win.
Way to go Cory!
Congrats to all the teams that came out to conquer Baja. This is not only a desert race but a race of the unknown. Baja can and will throw everything at you and these teams have prepared for a long time to make this one great race.
It's awesome to see so many teams come o
Out and see so many team finish with such great times.

How did the other manufactures do? It seems there were a bunch of Can Ams and Wildcats entered this year.

Amazing how far the UTVs have come from the old rhino days.

Someone always has to cry... We just worked our asses off to do live updates as often as service permitted and someone always has to whine that they didn't get what they want. Is it our fault that Can am or arctic cat didn't run in the top 2 to the finish? Are you suggesting that we should not have ran with the LEADERS back to Ensenada and be there when the winners finished? If it was Sappington and or Murray's running 1-2 and we were chasing them the final 100 miles I suppose we should of renamed the thread CanAm Baja 1000 updates? So lame.

Maybe you should show us how we should do it. SCORE's tracking system was garbage. It's easy to sit at home and call the shots. But to drive 800 miles into Mexico on less than stellar roads chasing vehicles you have no idea where they are is tough. Our social media feed had tons of updates on every manufacture. Thanks to the people that actually appreciate it and understand.

Super fun race! The course was brutal and Baja vets are saying that this might have been one of the roughest, toughest ever. The 50 miles of never ending silt in the middle of the night was incredible. We must have passed 30 trucks and buggies in that section...both stuck and on course. The Utes (all brands for the guy humping Cory's leg) just motor right through it. This race had not only silt but 3' never ending whoops, elevation up to 6500', rock crawling sections, fog, sand, heat into the 90's and cold into the high 30's, light rain, light...dark...then light again and unfortunately tragedy. Via con dios Kurt.

Super stoked that we got 20 entries in the Pro UTV class in the 2013 SCORE Tecate Baja 1000. Congrats to all of the finishers. Congrats to the Coastal Holz Polaris team for win. Great guys and super fun to race with. Congrats to Cory for getting 3rd. We came up a throttle cable short of the win but we won the war, which was our goal. Thanks to all of the drivers and co-dogs and to our crew who worked their butts off. Thanks to Brandon, Landon, Justin and Bill for building and prepping such a great RZR. Oh...and get well soon Ping Ping!

Finally thanks to Joey D, Rusty, Matt, Josh and the whole band of merry men that make up the UTV Underground/RDC/Mad Media crew. You guys are putting UTV Racing on the map and making our class legit. Next year how many UTV's do you think will show up to race? 25...30?

Woot...woot!

I was looking at the course via satellite. Looked like it was mostly Hwy and smooth graded roads.
Yeah, right. You ought to give yourself a pretty good education and visit Baja and see what this year's course was all about. Perhaps one of the roughest and most difficult not only driving it but logistically to set up support.
No, it wasn't just "smooth graded roads." What looks from up above via Google is certainly not the same.
