Race Winner, Hailie Deegan leading the pack in the Junior 2 kart class

The Optima Batteries green flag kicked off the 2014 season with some great kart racing. The youth classes always bring great race action and round one did not disappoint. Winner, Hailie Deegan, held her position in the top spot while Timmy Moran took the second place and Bryce McDaniel would round out the podium in third place. Dylan Plemons finished in 4th place but is definitely one to keep your eye on as he held the fastest lap time at 51.173 seconds.

]The Titan Electric Modified Kart class preparing for the Optima Batteries green flag.

The 2014 Titan Electric Modified Kart class kept the fans on their toes. Parker Steele, Ronnie Anderson, Cole Mamer, Travis Pecoy and the rest of the mod karts put on a great show. Parker Steele put on a dominating performance and threw down the fastest lap time at 44.918 seconds. Parker Steele took the win followed closely by the 2013 Titan Electric Mod Kart Champion, Travis Pecoy, in second, and Ronnie Anderson rounded out the podium in third place.

Chad George en route for his first win in the Pro Buggy class.

The Lucas Oil Regional event brought a glimpse of what the 2014 LOORRS Pro Buggy season will look like. Drivers like former SuperLite and UTV champion, Chad George, back-to-back LOORRS champion, Steve Greinke, 2013 Pro Buggy Regional Champion, Dave Bonner, and Mike Valentine showed their talent in the first race of the season. Bonner started the race off in the lead until Valentine put on a great move and stole the lead position. During the heat of the battle Steve Greinke dropped in to the mix of things and passed Bonner. At the mandatory yellow the order stood Valentine, George, Greinke, and Bonner. Greinke fell victim to mechanical issues and left the third position open. George was able to make the pass on Valentine for the top spot. The battle continued until the K&N checkered flag dropped. Chad George took the win followed by Mike Valentine and Dave Bonner. Steve Greinke ended up in 10th position after a mechanical failure but still posted the fastest lap time at 50.867.

Turn 2 action from the ThyssenKrupp Pro Lite Class

The most competitive race action of the weekend belonged to the ThyssenKrupp Pro Lite Class. Young guns Jeff Hoffman, Brock Heger, Scotty Steele, Gavin Harlien and Bryan Osborn fought to be on the podium. DJ Noerr also made his first appearance in the Pro Lite Class after graduating from the 2013 Trophy Kart RS class. 2014 marks the first year that the Pro Lite class will be scored separately and will compete for the championship and the $5,000 year-end purse supplied by ThyssenKrupp and Loanmart. 13 Pro Lites showed up to battle at round 1. This is the highest car count the regional series has ever seen in this class. Jeff Hoffman threw down the fastest lap time at 51.672 followed closely by Brock Heger running a 51.897. DJ Noerr won the race unchallenged proving that the key to success is consistency, not being the fastest on the track. The K&N checkered flag ended the race with DJ Noerr taking the win, Jeff Hoffman taking second, and Brock Heger rounding out the podium in third place.
Overall the 16 classes of highly talented drivers came out to battle at round 1 of the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series and put on a great show for the fans.

LORORS: You have a long background of racing different things, what’s your overall favorite part?

Brandon Kilgore: Just being able to battle. Out here in short course its wheel-to-wheel and you’re right there with the competition which just forcers you to drive harder; the turns are harder, you hit the brakes harder, and then accelerate faster. What I like about short course is the competition and adrenaline rush.

This is your first year racing at the Regional Series, where did you get your start?

I started racing quads when I was about 7, I then switched over to race Motocross and last year I decided to try out short course racing. This is my first time driving anything on 4 wheels with a cage.

The SR1 class is very competitive, what other series will you be racing this year?

I will be racing the So Cal Regionals, which is my home turf, I am going to race the Arizona Regional Series, and the SR1 Championship Series.

Give us some insight, who is your biggest competitor this year?

Dustin Nelson is definitely the fastest guy out there in our class. He races quads and is a factory driver for Yamaha. He’s a machine. Gary Thompson is also one to look out for. He just took the championship, is a very consistent driver and one of the fastest out there. I would say those two are the two number ones to beat in the class.

Do you want to give a shout out to any of your sponsors or supporters?

Jason and Corry Weller have been monumental in getting this class together, so a huge thanks to thanks to them. I love the SR1 class and wouldn’t be here without them. I would also like to thank Two Brothers Racing and Reliable Source Metals. They have been my backing and got me out here to race.
