Justin Lambert Tops UTV Finishers in BFGoodrich Tires 52nd SCORE Baja 1000

Justin Lambert and co-driver Victor Herrera were the first UTV racers to make it to the finish in Saturday’s BFGoodrich Tires 52nd SCORE Baja 1000 presented by 4 Wheel Parts, the final round of the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship. Herrera started the 800-mile race and handed off to Lambert at mile 340, and Lambert brought the #2918 Polaris RZR home in just over 21 hours to top both the Pro UTV Forced Induction class and the overall UTV standings.

“Victor handed it off to me around race mile 340 in about fourth or fifth place, only about 13 minutes behind the leader, and it was exactly what our plan was,” Lambert explained. “What a brutal course. This Cognito/Monster Polaris held together. This thing is tough. This will be my first SCORE Baja 1000 win. It’s a dream come true.”

“Justin gave me the privilege of starting the race,” added Herrera. “We started 13th and I did what he asked me to do which was bring it to him in one piece. That was our objective and we accomplished it. The car was flawless, we had no problems. It ran all day and did what we asked it to do. It’s been a long time since I won a SCORE Baja 1000 so it’s awesome to be back and win it.”

In Pro UTV Normally Aspirated, Kristen Matlock scored her first Baja 1000 victory with a remarkable ironwoman drive. Matlock’s time of 21:55:41 bested all but two of the Forced Induction entries.

“It’s really special,” she admitted. “I had tears coming down my face as I drove in here to the finish. This is my fourth attempt at it and I’ve ironwomaned it every single time, and this is probably the toughest one yet. This was more grueling, wet, and muddy, with lots of terrain changes. I thought that I knew Baja really well until the rain hit and changed everything. I had a great time and I appreciate SCORE for putting on such a great event.”
