Thanks bill. I will admit here that our axles, Summers bros. as well, are the same ones we started with last year. We purchased 2 sets (8 total), and have been rotating their use since. Just Magna-fluxed them for the first time 2 weeks before the 500 and
. They ALL had cracks! 2 were so bad that they were discarded as emergency spares only. The rest had cracks propogating from the root of the splines. Lots of them. There was no time to get new ones for the 500, so we ran 'em. We were so lucky to have limped in for the victory!
I'll start a new thread when I disassemble, and rebuild the Monster Mav for the V2R. It will be more thorough than ever before. The service life of many of the components has far been exceeded, and in some cases, not yet realized. I will include macro shots of the cracked axles so you all can see where to look on yours, as well as detailed pics of the damage and carnage sustained in the race, and how the repairs are performed. Marc ruined one of my new lower front arms, as well as 2 of the rear lower arms. I will be re-designing the lower arms to resemble a dihedral shape, in an effort to keep them out of harms way. Look for it next week.
