“Well that works!†said Cody Rahders after winning Round Two of the 2011 Lucas Oils Off Road Racing Series UTV main event. “After what we went through to get here just finishing would have been enough but to come out on top? Awesome!â€

Just prior to leaving for the race Thursday afternoon the team ran into several small problems that multiplied as the night wore on delaying their departure to the race until 3:45am Friday morning. Driving straight through they showed up in time to register, unload, tech, and then run in the first qualifier only to begin experiencing cooling system issues.

“We made so many changes to the car from last season that some of the things we are trying were never really tested under race conditions, that’s when the real problems will show up.â€
The team opted to skip the second Friday practice session to focus on the car and waited for the Saturday qualifier but experienced a blown coolant hose on lap one. Once repaired they went on to race the main only to run the battery dead on the last lap while running a solid fourth place. Cody was able to get a bump start and finish the race in sixth.

Saturday night turned into another all-nighter with the crew making several more changes to the car trying free up some electrical load and prevent another dead battery as well valving changes to the cars new shocks and last, get more air to the engines still too hot cooling system. The combined changes resulted in Cody setting the pole during Sunday morning’s qualifier then went on to lead all 14 laps of the main event and take the top step of the podium.
“I came in after the qualifier and told my crew chief Don’t change a thing, it’s perfect. but I didn’t realize how good it was until the green flag flew and I was able to motor away with ease. In fact it was working so good we had a seven second lead at the mid-race caution. Good car.â€

And with that finish the team came back with good data, will make several small changes in order to further dial in the chassis and head towards Speed World on April 16th & 17th for rounds 3 & 4 of LOORRS where they hope to repeat their results from round two.

I know Im spamming this but if you havent seen this its kind of cool. Im going to pick up HD GoPros before the next race, since the cars sat in the hot pits for 20 minutes prior to the race the old SD version ran out of memory around laps four laps into the race.

Great job. Sometimes it is even more rewarding to win when you go through a weekend like that. The easy wins are good but the hard earned victories are the memorable ones. Don't forget to write down what happened this weekend and print some pics. You will look back on it for a long time and be glad you did.
