Full confession – we have two badass trophy truck quality vehicle trailers here at the ranch but they are not our favorite. Our favorite trailer is a no fuss, easy drive on light weight trailer because it has built in ratchet straps. It takes about 90 seconds to drive on the thing, strap down and pull away. Up until that buying this trailer we weren’t too familiar with retractable ratchet straps but man are they handy – especially if you can permanently mount them. Problem with ours is they don’t last long. After about 2-3 months of heavy use the ratchets wear out and they stop working altogether. We began testing the new straps right away, and like all of the Rhino products noticed they were WAY better built than the crappy model we were using. These new Rhino straps extend smoothly with very little effort, and once attached on both ends, allow you to retract the excess strap length with the click of a button! They don’t require mounting at all – which allows them to be stored when not being used. So there’s no more messing around with excess strap that needs to be tied off. The Rhino USA retractable tie down straps simply retract all the excess strap and keep it safely tucked away.
The new straps come in both 1” and 2” sizes, and feature an anodized ratchet, ergonomic padded handle, and the same coated full bend S hooks as all our top of the time ratchet straps. The 1” straps are rated for 1,200 pounds while the 2” straps feature a break strength of over 3,000 pounds! These are the perfect solution for holding your motorcycles, UTV’s, and other towable items in place – or locking things like a bike down in the bed of your truck – quickly.
The only minor complaint we have is that we wish they weren’t so bulky in the middle when doing shorter length runs. But that’s a byproduct of being able to extend to ten feet so we can’t complain too much. Though Rhino doesn’t advertise it – it does look like these can be partially disassembled and used for permanent installations. We’re going to try that on our trailer because we’ve paid to replace these other crappy ratchet straps twice. Had we known Rhino had these in the works we wouldn’t have wasted our money on cheap crap!
