Hello everyone,

I am new to the world of UTV's and I have never even sat in one to get a general idea of what to look for. I figured I would post my needs and see what you guys can suggest for me.

What I'm looking for:

4x4 is a must. Will be driving in snow at times.
4 seats (or a 2 seater that can converted into 4 if needed)
Needs to be able to climb. Speed isn't an issue but 40mph or more would be nice if possible.
Winch (I can add after market if needed)
Sturdy and durable, long lasting. Easy to maintain.
Upgradeable (LED light bars, stereo system, etc)

I'm looking to buy used and I plan on keeping this up at my cabin in the woods. Mainly used to tote the family around, get firewood, and explore the "jeep trails" as they call them up north. I won't be going to sand dunes ever and don't plan on jumping it or going through whoops so LT really isn't needed I think.

I've looked at the Mule, Rzr's, and the Cam-Am (can't remember the model).

I need to read up on what to look for when buying used, I'm sure there is a post on here somewhere about that. Just wanted people's ideas of what is good vs. bad for my application.

I'm looking to spend around 10-15k for a used one. I went to a local dealer and they were wanting 20-25+ for some of the RZR's and 18k for stock mule's which seemed over priced.

Thanks everyone!

Yep a Kawasaki Teryx4 sounds like what you need.

4 seats
750 to 800cc
4wd
Very roomy
New units have a 3 year factory warranty
Some guys are paying around $13500 out the door for new units.

Here is my T4. Great machines.

Yup, I have a bud with a Teryx4 and he loves it. But I have other buds with RZR 4s who swear by them also. Lots of options!

The minute you said tuff and durable, the KAWASAKI T4 became your love joy.

There are faster UTV's but your going to pay double and be less reliable. A used T4 could be had for $10k if you look hard enough and are patient.

I'm selling mommas converted 4 seater TERYX in lue of the new T4 showing up at the Ranch. This is the best deal going in the classifieds on a TERYX right now. She will eat up the whoops on Sand Highway in Glamis and almost keep up with a RzR 900xp. I put my race car, HRT Suspension on it and she now runs like a dialed car.

I would steer clear of the Teryx4! Here are the issues with them:

1. Lots of room for 4 passengers
2. Great clutch (Best in the industry)
3. Great power for all around trail riding
4. Spectacular warranty, industry best
5. Parking brake that works
6. Parking brake that works
7. Parking brake that works
8. Reliable
9. AND......the glove box closes perfectly

Completely.

Minus the shame part. If I was asking $13k like some of these guys I'd have some shame, but at $8900, meh.

You Dave are just too damn funny!!
I take it you are very pleased with your decision on trading in your RZR 4.

That's awesome!

After going to a few dealers I might change and get a 2 seater as it looks a bit more fun for me. Plus I wasn't aware how big the 4 seater was. 4 seats would be nice but I think my wife and I will be the people using it the most rarely using the rears.

What's everyone's thoughts on a 2 seater?

yep. Don't get me wrong, I loved my rzr4. It held up well, 100% reliable, but just doesn't have the leg room for big guys like me and the Stumpy. I really like the Polaris product a lot!! But, I was ready for a change:)

I'm leaning towards the rzr right now. Smaller. Found one with a 50inch wheel base which matters. I spoke to the people around my cabin and they have a lot of quad trails that they say the 50inch rzr can fit through without issues.

Also I like the bottom skid plate from the factory. I'll need that as I'm going to learn to off road with this.

I've got 1100 miles on my 2012 Teryx4 and other than a busted floorboard, which Kawi replaced even though it was out of warranty, it's been flawless.
